Inlay / Onlay

When the chewing surfaces of back teeth are damaged, breaks, fractures, or old fillings that need to be replaced, an inlay or onlay is often the recommended solution.

An inlay is a pre-molded filling fitted into the grooves of a tooth and does not extend over the cusps of the tooth.

An onlay is a method used to repair a tooth that has more extensive damage affecting the cusp or tips of the tooth, or potentially the biting surface.

Inlays and onlays typically require less tooth to be removed as opposed to a filling, crown, or root canal.

  • Custom tailored composite materials (gentle to opposing teeth, prone to more wear and discoloration),
    • gold (strongest, most expensive, not natural- looking), or
    • tooth-colored porcelain (most natural-looking, wear well).
  • Permanently cemented onto the tooth.
  • Durable and long-lasting.

After evaluating the damaged tooth, Tri-City Dental Care will help you make the best decision for your budget and your mouth – and give you a long-lasting solution for your smile.
